How could you have done better?
We started FPL90cents because we want to share our love for FPL as a way to improve our decision-making in our everyday life (in both work and life), and we felt this hasn't been the focus of other websites - understandably! Join us if you're keen to explore this area.
We got a respectable 78 points and nailed all four public myths of GW1 (no Notts and Everton clean sheets, Fernandes blank, and Salah isn't worth it compared to his teammates/Haaland) but are more excited to talk about the flip side: drilling into our team errors!

For us, the goal of FPL isn't maximum points or ranking (which may require more time and research than we can spare) but how to make good decisions without avoidable mistakes. The points are just a proxy / feedback loop.
We can use FPL to improve decision-making by working on two things:
- Character. Learning how to be honest and humble with ourselves, e.g. learning to better recognise the moments when we were wanting something to be true rather than guided by clear facts;
- Smarts. Learning how to tell a "bad" decision versus an "unlucky" one - a bad outcome does not necessarily mean you were wrong, just as a good outcome does not mean you are right!
Do you know which were your avoidable mistakes? We'll start with ours:
- We got carried away by the narrative of Chelsea/Palmer's recent triumphs and willfully ignored the fact that Crystal Palace has an undeniable track record of being hard to beat, e.g. their FA cup win over Manchester City and Community Shield win over Liverpool.
- We got carried away by the narrative of Aston Villa/Watkin's quality and willfully ignored the fact that Newcastle is a vastly improved team compared to some years back - a respectable fifth-place team, and it made more sense to get cheaper strikers and/or those facing easier fixtures.
We enabled the comments feature - do share your own thoughts as part of the reflective exercise (or else write them somewhere as part of your decision journal)!
