[Gameweek 12 review] It takes two hands to clap

Red arrow this week but perhaps the most satisfying one this season -

  • Haaland blank - in line with our latest piece on triple captain chip strategies. We said we would captain someone else but sadly Mbeumo blanked despite decent stats, and that's par for the course (we can only control odds, not outcomes).

And while Haaland did have good chances against Newcastle (it is fundamentally risky to go against him after all), but fair to say it's a deserved win by the toon army.

Looking forward to seeing how the remaining analysis of the triple captain chip strategies play out! (Two other key weeks left to unfold.)
  • Pedro's blank against Burnley (we no longer own him) was also satisfying given our GW11 piece that he remains unconvincing.
  • Fixture-proof pick Munoz hauled; while GW8 top pick Enzo finally paid off after his good stats, a sentiment shared by FantasyFootballScout:
  • Our red arrow is due to two main factors: (a) GW9 degen pick Reece James getting taken out early in the 3-0 over Burnley (so he can put in a lauded performance against Barcelona, and (b) needlessly benching Welbeck (8points) as we felt obliged to walk the talk with our -4 buys of O'Reilly and Gomez (both blanks). We're comfortable with O'Reilly who remains a golden pick, while Gomez is a (an official "degen pick") is a wait-and-see in contrast with Minteh.
  • Now we have dipped to Official Rank of 965,280.
  • Our learning takeaway for this week is to manage risk more prudently for the squad and not feel obliged act on every of our recommendation - it is reasonable to generate more ideas than transfers.

We will continue to strive for being a useful sounding board and highlight key nooks and crannies not found elsewhere, be it minor moves or major dives.

And it takes two hands to clap - we tend to be better at the "negative insights" (overlooked risks and likely blanks) rather than "positive recommendations" of players who can take advantage of these squad weaknesses by others. But that's also because transfers tend to take time to pay off (e.g. Enzo, and almost Reece James).

We hope you had a green arrow; look out for our next articles! Don't forget to rigorously reflect on your own decision learning (and have a good week in non-FPL land!)
